New online awareness course launched

September 08, 2024

For International Literacy Day 2024, the Adult Literacy for Life programme office is launching a new online awareness course for people dealing with the public.

The online course ‘Let’s talk about literacy’ will help people to become literacy aware and respond sensitively to unmet literacy needs.

 The course includes:

  • Interviews with literacy learners who share first-hand experiences of the challenges they face with literacy, the benefits of getting support with literacy and their experiences of accessing public services.

  • Interviews with staff working in Money Advice and Budgeting (MABS), Donegal library service and Dublin Well Woman Centre. They share guidance on how staff can use a literacy friendly approach to support people with literacy needs.

  • A range of interactive exercises and scenarios to help you become more literacy aware.

  • Tips and tools looking at responding sensitively, using plain language and breaking down information.

You can do the course on our website here: https://www.adultliteracyforlife.ie/aware/
