This project gave learners a thorough understanding of their rights and entitlements regarding taxation and social welfare. Tutors also taught learners how to write CVs and prepare for interviews. The course took place between November and December 2023 in the Parish Community Centre in Mullingar.
14 learners attended the course. It showed them how to navigate websites and engage with government departments online through services like MyWelfare.ie or MyRevenue.ie. The course also taught learners how to apply online for public service cards and other benefits.
The financial literacy course explained how taxation and pay slips work. It also explored budgeting skills and helped learners identify good deals and value for money.
Learners found the course informative and interesting. Many participants were especially grateful for the practical advice they learnt.
This project was the result of a collaboration between the Women’s Community Projects Mullingar Association, Citizens Information Mullingar, and Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board (LWETB).
